The 12th Biennial Conference on Forensic Linguistics (Language and Law) of the International Association of Forensic Linguists (IAFL) is going to take place at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) in Guangzhou, China from July 6 to July 9, 2015. This is IAFL’s first biennial conference in Asia. The conference website is: http://www.iafl12.org/
The conference theme is Language and Law: Information, Interaction, and Integration, which aims to promote collaboration among forensic linguists, law scholars and legal practitioners in terms of information sharing, international interaction and intelligence integration.
Potential topics include:
police investigations, interviews and interrogation
courtroom interaction and discourse analysis
courtroom interpreting and legal translation
admissibility of linguistic evidence in court
comprehensibility of legal texts
interpretation of legal texts
multimodality in legal discourse
legal discourse information analysis
teaching and training of interdisciplinary personnel of language and law
The Plenary Speakers will be Prof. John Gibbons, Prof. Malcolm Coulthard, Prof. Janet Ainsworth, Prof. Edward Finegan, Prof. Du Jinbang, and Dr. Tim Grant.
